Why you should kill Plumeria in Second Life

Let me put it right out here, I hate Plumeria.
If you use Plumeria you better be really, really, really good at putting an environment together and surround the ugly of the Plumeria with greatness, and so sorry for you that you felt the need to sully your super, great build by adding Plumeria, maybe you did it because how great your build was you didn’t want the great build police to come and give you a ticket for being so great so you put in Plumeria to take it down a notch.
I have used Plumeria myself at times, (when I was new and didn’t have much experience landscaping) but I always took a shower afterward. It’s fairly easy to be rid of, but if it persists in your builds consider getting some anti-Plumeriabiotics and rest for 3-4 days.
What in the heck is with this plant, what is it really.
From Wikipedia on Plumeria,
Plumeria is related to the Oleander, Nerium oleander, and both possess poisonous, milky sap, rather similar to that of Euphorbia. Each of the separate species of Plumeria bears differently shaped leaves and their form and growth habits are also distinct. The leaves of P. alba are quite narrow and corrugated, while leaves of P. pudica have an elongated oak shape and glossy, dark green color. P. pudica is one of the everblooming types with non-deciduous, evergreen leaves. Another species that retains leaves and flowers in winter is P. obtusa; though its common name is “Singapore”, it is originally from Colombia. Frangipani can also be found in Eastern Africa, where they are sometimes referred to in Swahili love poems.[1]
Does this picture of Plumeria look like Plumeria in Second Life? Kind of - but the Plumeria in Second Life is anemic and the flower is pale. Not only is the plant Plumeria in Second Life just ugly in itself, it’s often used at the wrong scale. Why is it often used at the wrong scale? Because it initially rezzes at the wrong scale, please see the picture to the right.
Why do people use Plumeria? They need a landscape filler that is load friendly and prim light (it’s only one prim) and they don’t have enough energy or forethought to go find a replacement. It used to be that you couldn’t find a one prim plant that was very good but that isn’t true anymore. Nowadays you can find some sweet particle plants, or one prim sculpty plants that will help you out.
If you can’t find a replacement for the spot you want to put in Plumeria, just leave it out.
When you add Plumeria to a build landscape and it’s not to scale you do a disservice to yourself and the rest of your build. It’s a simple thing and it’s a little thing but all of those simple little things add up and Plumeria misuse is pretty common. Stand out from the crowd, don’t make this common mistake.
IF your build is about zany, off scaled objects then you know this doesn’t apply although I would still recommend not using Plumeria. Due to the misuse of poorly scaled Plumeria the hilarity of mis-scaled Plumeria on a build that uses large scaled objects will be lost, choose another plant.
Teizus Miles has some nice low prim plants at her shop, (SLURL) Keep it Green.
Do you have a low prim plant of bush that you can reccomend? Where is a favorite spot that you get your landscaping plants from?
Please let me know so we can add it to our toolbox of Plumeria alternatives.
