On Fire at Burning Life 2008

Another Burning Life has ended in Second Life.  I’ve been to all of them. One thing I’ve learned is, take pictures, and this year I learned how to take video so I did that too. I wish I had more pictures of the earlier Burning Life events, but I am not a time traveler and the moments are gone. This year Torley and I wandered and explored the 22 regions, I took bits of video and some snapshots to make a grand Burning Life 2008 video.

There was so much to explore that we surely didn’t get a chance to see everything and I look forward to browsing everyone’s pictures that they can share from their Burning Life experiences. I really appreciate all the work everyone from the organizers, to the artisans, who made our Second Life, Burning Life this year interesting and full of great creations to indulge our senses with.

I think my jaw hit the floor when I saw all the people at the Burning Man event, I heard tales of over 200 people being there. Whoa- that’s a lot.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well my performance was during the event, however Torley had the opposite experience and kept getting smartheap errors.  Normally our performance is the other way around, where I am the crasher and he waits to welcome me back. The upside was that since we were both running video and snapshots between the two of us we were not going to miss anything.

There were dancers, and tinies, furries, children, Lindens, aliens, humans and fairies, in all shapes and colors from all over the world. There was a handful of people on fire, copious amounts of particles here and there, expressive gesture sounds, and overall it was just really a festive time.

Summer

Summer

Summer Seale is an artisan in Second Life with a zest for the particle goodness. Summer makes beautiful clothing, and more that include the movement and color of particles from gorgeous shoes to full environment immersions.

A picture doesn’t do particle art justice so I have a short clip for you of the artistry by Summer. I hope you get a chance to experience it for yourself, in Second Life she has a shop in Austin.

Summer is featured in the beautiful calendar by 12Avatars.com and has her own blog where you can learn more about Summer and what she is up to. You can also find a collection of Summer’s work on Here, I am personally inviting you to please come and explore. The main collection on Here is located right behind the big Torley head, swoop in there and sit for a bit.

Thank you Summer for making our Second Life more beautiful and full of magic.

Blossom and the Dress

four yip is one of my very favorite Second Life artisans and when she gifted me with this dress I immediately thought that I wanted to do something special. I had also been trying to incorporate more of myself into my videos and after picking what felt to be the right song for this, I warmed up my voice and tortured myself for a bit recording it. Wow that is some hard work and I give even more credit to people who seemingly effortlessly belt out, beautiful tunes. I love how this short machinima turned out and thank you to ColeMarie and Torley for all your encouragement.

To my delighted surprise this recieved a video reply from Ole Etzel, a well regarded Second Life Machinimatorapher.  I was very flattered and impressed with his creativety in his video response. Thanks Ole!
