Modem cycling

I am having modem cycling issues. What this translates for me is I am unable to consistently connect to the Internet. One second one, 14 off. The cable guy came yesterday and switched out the modem and checked all my connects, he said everything was okay, now the problem is worse and he can’t come back until Saturday morning. Another lesson for me in patience…I must need a lot of lessons in that because I surely keep having them come up in my life. I’ve also come to the conclusion that just as a watched pot never boils, you can not stare directly at the modem lights or they will never fully light up but as soon as you start doing something else they all come on..you sit to type seething or send something and whoosh, they all hide. Maybe modem lights are shy? I’ll just peak at them instead (looks at the lights with a sideways glance) ohhhhh I think they saw…okay maybe if I rub the modem like a magic lamp? (rubs the modem) Sometimes it helps to give things a smack, it’s worked a time or two with smaller computer problems (smacks the modem) Could you imagine if the Internet went away, or…..we just didn’t have computers anymore?
For example it was just an alien experiment to give us this technology and we were only allowed to continue with it if we used it in a way they agreed with. Maybe it was an open ended experiment but when the experiment was over then they pulled the plug on the technology and went on to the experiment regarding the human behavior when denied their computer technology after becoming dependent on it. What would we do? I imagine nine months from that point we would see a higher percentage of children being born.
I am hoping to get out of town after the cable guy comes on Saturday to go do a bit of fishing, camping and breathing. This should be fun but since it is so far away from civilization I will not be able to communicate with anyone should the need arise. There is also the risk I will be devoured by a wild animal, possibly a cougar or a wandering bear…just sayin. My intention is to get all geared up, cute as a button with my fishing vest loaded up and hat and catch some small mouth bass and walleye, then feast on them and rub my belly. I should charge up my camera batteries so I can get some good pics to share or me and nature and my bounty of fish I am sure to catch (extreme optimism).

Where have I been?
You mean as in all of your life?
No I mean as in the past few days.
I’ve been working up some stuff for a new project that absolutely had to have some things to it done over the weekend and that just buried me for the past few days. I know return you to my normal pace of delivering blog.
Last week I had the opportunity to meet with some guys from an ebook community. I urge you all to check out what these guys are into regarding open standards for ebook publishing it makes a lot of sense. ( OpenReader )We had a really dynamic conversation about the potentials of Second Life and books. It sure gives me pause to think about the next generation of books and libraries. I keep going back to the Time Machine movie where they had that computer generated librarian, and or chips inside our heads that we can access information like we do now from the Internet but directly into our heads. If you could have instantaneous knowledge is it a good idea? Sure many of us like the process of learning but if you could just learn something immediately, would you take advantage of that. I think I’d say yes definitely in any area pertaining to mathematics. *laughs*
It’s a really beautiful morning here. Fresh, crisp air, everything has that quiet Monday morning feel to it, I can hear my coffee pot drippling into the carafe. Usually I prefer a nice french press preparation of my coffee. One time I had this super awesome vacuum coffee pot that works basically on the same principal as a french press machine but it was automated so I could “set it nd forget it”, but it only lasted about a year then it broke. I never did replace it.
